Meet Karrah Cullers, one of the newest members of our board and a weekly tutor. Karrah has volunteered with us since 2020 and joined the board in November.
Karrah works each week with Elaina, who she describes as “smart as a whip.” Karrah spoke about the relationship they’ve built and the hopes she has for Elaina. “It’s fun to watch her blossom. As an adult in her life, I love having the opportunity to tell her not to limit herself. Just try it, give it a go before you say ‘I can’t.’”
On the Learning Edge board of directors, Karrah is now considering opportunities and possibilities for more than just Elaina. She said, “I want to see if we can get more students, see how much money we can raise, and see what we can do to propel our students to be their best.”
Karrah’s involvement at Learning Edge fits with a life philosophy she maintains: what we go through is not just for us. She explained that some of what she does at Learning Edge is for herself–it’s fulfilling–and, of course, it directly serves the students. But, she’s certain that the community-at-large benefits from what is happening at Learning Edge. “There is always someone who is drawing strength from your trouble and from your accomplishments. There are people who see what we’re doing and how we work. It’s for them, too.”
