Learning Edge to host Essentials for Math seminar

Learning Edge Tutoring will host an Essentials for Math seminar on Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fair Oaks church in Oak Park.

The Essentials for Math seminar is ideal for tutors who have students in grades K through 5, or for those with students who struggle with fundamental math concepts.

The math seminar is led by Learning Edge volunteer Barbara Mayer, who is a retired elementary school teacher. Barbara will share how tutors can identify student gaps in math knowledge, help improve number sense, and learn alternative ways to solve problems that build conceptual understanding. Using manipulatives is one aspect of this, and she will demonstrate how to use them.

This Essentials for Math seminar includes innovative ways to solve math problems that are used in classrooms throughout the state.
