A Constellation of Educational Stars

Meet Tishara and her children, Jayla (16), Jasmine (15), Jerron (13), and Jordyn (7). Like many of our families, Tishara and her husband, Jerron Sr., first heard about Learning Edge from extended family and decided to engage their children in tutoring to ensure their students stay on top of their education before any problems arise.

It’s working: each of the children are academically engaged, hardworking, and accomplished. In the eleven years this family has been at Learning Edge, Tishara described having seen incredible measures of academic achievement–including when Jasmin graduated as salutatorian of her eighth grade class. But beyond high grades, Tishara spoke to how all four children have learned to advocate for their own educational needs, a skill that will help them throughout life.

Tishara said that Learning Edge is “not just a place to get your kids help; It builds friendship, it builds a camaraderie for a long-term relationship.” Each child has a unique relationship with their tutors. Jasmine, who is currently a sophomore, has had the same tutor since Kindergarten! Tishara said there are things Jasmine will share with her tutor Caitlin that she doesn’t share with her parents. Jerron’s tutor exposes him to new vocab and plays chess with him and Tishara says the relationship is “growing and thriving.” She spoke about how tutors have been flexible and switched nights to keep up with her kids’ busy schedules, how they’ve met with her kids over the summer, they’ve celebrated birthdays, and they’ve attended graduations.

What’s more, Tishara, who has always been an educational cheerleader for her own kids, has shared that passion with our community and beyond. She has run a few Learning Edge parent-to-parent seminars, giving pointers on what she does to support her kids with reading and writing at home. And more recently, she began working with young children as a special education classroom assistant and is dedicated to helping each child excel in the classroom.

Learning Edge is fortunate to have these educational stars in our midst!
