Congratulations to Akeelah, our graduating senior! Akeelah has been a student at Learning Edge Tutoring since 7th grade, sticking it out through online tutoring during COVID interruptions. “Akeelah has been a delight to work with,” said Sher Spooner, Akeelah’s tutor for the duration of those six years.
Akeelah explained that she took advantage of tutoring as a dedicated time and space to approach her homework with support. “I am happy to have the extra help,” she said. She said that Sher, who has a background in journalism, really pushed her as a writer. Sher commended Akeelah as being “responsible and open to suggestions, especially about writing.”
Sher went on to say that “Akeelah has had a lot of growth, not just in what she knows but how she approaches her work.” It shows: Akeelah was accepted to 18 colleges and universities! She has plans to attend Elmhurst University in the fall and will major in Education and minor in Marketing. She explained that she hopes to have a well-rounded set of skills and instill a love of education in kids like teachers have done for her.
Akeelah shared the following advice for future Learning Edge students: “Be open, ask a lot of questions. Use this support to your advantage!”
Congratulations and good luck, Akeelah! We are so proud of all you’ve done and are excited to watch how your continued hard work pays off.
